Join Brooke Sinnes of Sincere Sheep in a daylong exploration of natural dyeing. In this hands-on class we start with a explanation and written instructions for the mordanting process (note the mordanting is done prior to class), half day of indigo, followed by over-dyeing in vats created with dyestuffs and extracts. You will create indigo ‘mothers’, set up vats, and learn how to re-tune the vats as we use them. Following lunch we will go over different techniques and resources/examples of natural dyeing techniques. We will also use an iron after-bath to shift one of the colors. This is a unique experience all in one day! The class includes 7 one-ounce skeins of fingering weight U.S. cormo wool yarn (total 875 yards).
Supplies: Students are required to bring: rubber gloves, an apron if desired, a bag for transporting wet yarn, and dress in non-precious clothing and closed-toed shoes.
Full payment is needed to reserve your space. For a refund on the class, cancellations must be made 5 days prior to the class. All refunds are given as store credit only. If we cancel the class for any reason, you will receive a full refund. Please note any supplies or homework are listed under the class description.
